Image Scanning

Image scanning services are available to faculty, staff and graduate students. Digital Collections can deliver images to patrons in various file formats and resolutions for electronic presentations, printing or archiving. If you have a personal collection that you are willing to contribute to the Digital Image Library, please contact Nicole Finzer.

Image Scanning

We digitize images, documents, maps and manuscripts from books, slides, negatives and flat art. Images that have accompanying descriptive information can be cataloged by our staff and included in the Digital Image Library.

• 1-25 illustrations = 1 week
• 26-50 illustrations = 2-3 weeks
• 50+ illustrations = TBD (To process a request of this size, you will need to discuss your project with Nicole Finzer or Dan Zellner in order to determine when your request will be completed.)

Requests: Please fill out the image scanning request form (available online or in the Digital Collections office).

**Please note: Turn around times could vary depending on current project load.

**Oversized images may require additional processing time.

Digital Collections no longer produces physical slides for the Visual Media Collection.

Warning concerning copyright restrictions

The Northwestern University Library respects the intellectual property rights of others. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish reproductions of copyrighted material. One of these specified conditions is that the reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. Requests for services are evaluated on this basis, and additional information about the use may be requested in order to determine whether one of the exemptions (typically those described in sections 107 or 108 of the copyright law) will authorize fulfilling it.
